About Me

I am an Australian in my Mid 20’s working towards Financial Independence.

I have been working full time since 2018. In my first 12 months of full time work I managed (somehow) to keep my bank account steady at almost completely broke.
After that very expensive first year of working life, I made the decision to improve my situation. I was going to try work towards Financial Independence. At the time I didn't know there was a movement for what I was trying to achieve. (the FIRE or Financial Independence Retire Early movement.)

This blog is a way for me to track my financial journey.
I will write about some of the strategies I am exploring, what is working and what isn’t and share some of the tools I use to help me on my way to achieving FI. Nothing I write about should be taken as financial advice. This is only a place for me to write about my journey and experiences.

After deciding to pursue financial stability, I spent a large amount of time with my saving and planning hat on. I started with a simple Google about the FIRE Movement. After reading about some success stories of women and men in their 40’s 30’s and even 20’s who had retired, I was hooked. I mean what’s not to love? The idea of saving and investing enough to retire early by letting your money work hard so you don’t have to. Sounds great.

From then I was in research mode with hundreds of questions needing to be answered.

Is FIRE actually achievable?

How do I increase my savings rate?

How do I start budgeting?

How do I start investing in the share market?

How much money do you need to invest in the Australian stock exchange?

What is a FIRE Number?

How do I start my FIRE journey?

The more I read the more questions I had.

Why did the concept of FIRE capture so much of my attention so passionately?

The concept of being able to retire in your 30’s or 40’s sounds amazing but that isn’t really what made me so interested. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure it would be great for a short while, but I don’t think I would really enjoy a life with nothing to do but sit and wait for the sun to set each day. I do enjoy the work I do, but sometimes bills can put stress on life.

For me the idea of removing financial stress and being able to afford the opportunity to pursue hobbies and be more flexible with a good work life balance is what really got me hooked.

Since I become interested in the FIRE movement, I have started Budgeting, Improved my savings rate each month, investing in the stock market, and more importantly I feel like I am taking really positive steps on my own financial journey.
